Packing List for a Holiday

Packing for an upcoming holiday can be a stressful for even the most experienced traveler. You need to pack everything that you need for the duration of your trip, however you don't want to over pack and risk having to pay additional luggage fees. Having a good idea of what you need to take with you will help to alleviate any pre-holiday stress.
  1. Clothing and Personal Items

    • Based on your destination, you will want to pack appropriate clothing items. If you are going to some place tropical you will want to pack shorts, sundresses, tank tops, bathing suits and sandals in addition to your staples of underwear and socks. However, if you are going on a ski trip, packing a ski jacket, bibs, thermal underwear, thick socks, a scarf and gloves and a toboggan are important. Make sure that you tailor your wardrobe to clothing that is appropriate for the climate and activities you will be doing. You will also want to make sure that you pack any toiletry items that you will need for the duration of the trip. Keep in mind, you are not allowed to carry on any more than three, 3-oz. containers of liquids onto a plane with you. If you require more than this, those items will need to be put in your checked luggage. Be sure that you pack any medications that you may need.

    Electronics

    • One of the most important things you will want to take on your holiday is your camera and camera charger. Pack your laptop and charger so that you can share your pictures with friends and family while you're traveling and so that you will have something to do if you have a layover at the airport. Pack your iPod or MP3 player to have something to listen to on the plane. If you are traveling with children, a portable DVD player will keep them occupied at the airport or on long car rides.

    Money and Documents

    • One of the most important things you will need to bring is your travel itinerary, travel documents (plane tickets or reservation numbers), photo ID, passport, debit and credit cards and cash or traveler's checks. If you are traveling internationally, make sure that you have your passport with you at all times. It is a good idea to bring copies of all your prescriptions with you for any medications that you may be carrying.
