Do you need a license to be mediator in Texas?

In Texas, mediators must be licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). To obtain a license, applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

2. Complete at least 40 hours of training in mediation

3. Pass a criminal background check

4. Apply for and receive a license from the TDLR

Once licensed, mediators must complete 12 hours of continuing education every two years to maintain their license.

In addition to the above requirements, some counties in Texas also have additional requirements for mediators. For example, Travis County requires mediators to complete an additional 10 hours of training in domestic violence mediation.

It is important to note that the requirements for becoming a mediator in Texas are constantly changing. Please check with the TDLR for the most up-to-date information.
