Why did colonists dump British tea into Boston harbor?

The Boston Tea Party was a political protest that occurred on December 16, 1773, in Boston, Massachusetts. A group of colonists, disguised as Mohawk Indians, boarded three British ships and dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston harbor.

The protest was in response to the British government's Tea Act, which gave the British East India Company a monopoly on the sale of tea in the American colonies. The colonists were angry because they felt that the Tea Act was unfair and that it violated their right to self-government.

The Boston Tea Party was a major event in the American Revolution. It helped to spark the American Revolution and led to the British government enacting the Intolerable Acts, which further angered the colonists and led to the outbreak of the Revolutionary War.
