Atlanta is host to the largest New Year's Eve celebration in the southeast each Dec. 31. The Peach Drop takes place in Underground Atlanta, a downtown entertainment and shopping district. The evening offers a carnival-like atmosphere complete with live music. Most area restaurants and bars remain open until 4 a.m. The event's namesake comes from the evening's countdown to the New Year as the crowd watches an 800-pound fiberglass peach drop, much like the crystal ball in New York's Time Square.
