What started out as a museum in 1976 is now a fully interactive experience that brings to life some of the most frightening, exciting and terrifying moments in the history of London. Featuring a mirror maze, actors, and a ride, visitors can witness the Black Death, walk the streets of Whitechapel with Jack the Ripper, and be sentenced to death by a wig-clad 18th-century judge. Everything at the London Dungeon is portrayed with a sinister sense of humor, including the audience volunteer torture demonstration.
One of the most highly regarded and well-reviewed tour companies in the city, London Walks offers a wide variety of guided walking tours of London. From the historical to the humorous, each tour guide is expertly trained in his area, and tours include Shakespeare's London, Harry Potter locations, Ghost Walks, Foodie Walks and dozens more. Many walking tours give visitors access to areas not open to the public. Prices are very reasonable, and the tours start from easily located areas, such as tube stations.
The British Museum started in 1753 as a cabinet of curiosities, a collection of curios from all over the world. It now hosts one of the foremost collections of historical artifacts and exhibits in the world. Entrance is by donation only, and guided orientation tours are available throughout the day. Many visitors find that it requires more than one visit to take in the whole museum, but many other visitors are interested only in particular areas, such as the Egypt or Pacific collections, or touring exhibits from around the world.
