Select the appropriate exterior paint --- either for aluminum or fiberglass --- at your local hardware store. Choose an oil-based priming paint to prime your travel trailer. Select a 100 percent latex exterior paint to use for your aluminum or fiberglass travel trailer.
Wash your travel trailer with soapy water to remove any dirt or debris. Use painter's tape to keep from getting paint on the window frames and door frame. Pull the tape out in straight lines and cover the window trim and other spots you would like to avoid painting.
Pour the oil-based priming paint into a roller tray and give your travel trailer a full coat of primer. Let the primer sit and dry for at least six hours.
Pour the paint into a roller tray. Dip your roller into the tray and use a smooth up-and-down motion to begin painting your trailer. Use a hand brush for corners and other areas where you need to be precise, such as near the window and door frames. Give the paint one full day to dry and then add a second coat of paint to complete your project.
