How to Dump Waste from a Salem Travel Trailer

By following the proper procedures for dumping waste from a Salem travel trailer, you will ensure that the tank will stay clean and odor-free, making your camping experience more enjoyable. Salem travel trailers utilize two waste-water holding tanks. The gray water tank holds waste water from sinks and showers, while the black water tank holds waste from the toilet. Both tanks need to be emptied using proper dumping procedures.

Instructions

Connect the drain hose to the connection on the Salem travel trailer. The drain hose is stored in the back bumper of the trailer. Remove the rubber end cap from the bumper and pull the hose from the bumper. On one end of the flexible house is a fitting designed to attach to the drain outlet of the travel trailer. Place the fitting over the outlet and turn it to lock it in place.

Place the other end of the hose in the appropriate waste-water drain. Locate the black water valve, a single handle that is pulled to open the gate valve. This allows the waste water accumulated from the toilet to flow through the drain hose. The black water tank capacity varies from 32 to 35 gallons, depending on the size of the Salem travel trailer.

Locate the handle for the gray water tank valve. This is also a lever to operate a gate valve. Open the valve allowing the waste water accumulated from sinks and showers to drain through the same fittings and hoses as the black water tanks. The gray water serves to clean the interior of the fittings and hose. The gray water tanks also vary in capacity from 32 to 35 gallons, depending on the size of the Salem travel trailer.
