How to Light a Hot Water Heater in a Motorhome
The water heater in a RV has either a six or 10 gallon tank, which is usually fueled by propane. The water heater may operate either on gas alone or on gas and 120 volt AC. If the water heater has a gas pilot light you will have to relight it with a match every time you set up camp. If have a direct spark ignition (DSI) system, you can light your pilot light with a switch.

Clear any soot from around the exhaust of the water heater.

Check to see that the RV's battery is fully charged.

Turn turn the gas valve to the "Pilot" position. If it is a DSI system, push the switch until the pilot is lit.

Push the reset button in while holding match in the area where the gas comes out.

Hold the button until the light burns brightly, then turn the valve to the "On" position.
