How to Clean a Fresh Water RV Tank
Periodic maintenance of water tanks in RVs and boats is essential to promote safety. The fresh water tank should be sanitized and cleaned periodically to prevent buildup and bacteria. Turn off your water heater and allow the water to cool. Fill your fresh water tanks with water almost to capacity.

Measure 1/4 cup of bleach per 15 gallons of water capacity for your tank.
Pour the bleach into a gallon jug of water.

Dispense the bleach-water mixture into your fresh water tank. Turn on all faucets and valves to run the water through the system until the tank is empty. Turn off all faucets and valves.

Refill your water tank with fresh water and turn on your faucets to rinse the system of chlorine. Repeat this step at least twice to until the chlorine smell from the water is gone.
