Public air travel can be a hassle for many travelers, so the idea of chartering a private plane has become more attractive. Long security lines, cancellations and delays are just a few of the reasons many travelers are opting for flying private. Chartering a private plane offers convenience, but be prepared to pay a lot more for your flight. The cost can vary from $500 to $15,000 depending on the size of your plane, the amount of crew needed for your journey and the length of your trip.

      Log on to the Internet and search for private charter flights if you don't want to visit your local F.B.O to find a charter company. Many companies online may not have a base at your local airport, but can shuttle the plane there for your traveling purposes.

      Detail to the charter operator your flight plan, the number of people you are taking and whether you will need catering. Ask the operator how the crew will be fed and housed during your trip. You may be responsible for this expense. Inquire about fuel charges and how they are handled. Is the price of fuel included in this price or do you have to pay it up front?

      Compare the prices from various companies to see who has the better price and the most convenient schedule. Try to compare at least three to four companies to get an idea of what you should be paying for your trip.
