How many cops are in NYC?

There are approximately 38,000 uniformed members of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) as of 2023. This includes patrol officers, detectives, sergeants, lieutenants, captains, inspectors, deputy inspectors, chief inspectors, assistant chiefs, deputy chiefs, and the police commissioner. In addition, there are approximately 17,000 civilian employees of the NYPD who provide support services to the police department.
