How are the streets arranged in New York?

New York City's street grid follows a regular pattern of north-south avenues and east-west streets. Most streets are numbered, with some named streets running along the perimeter.

Avenues

Avenues run north and south and are numbered from east to west. First Avenue is the easternmost avenue in Manhattan and 12th Avenue is the westernmost. Avenues are typically 60 feet wide.

Streets

Streets run east and west and are numbered from south to north. Wall Street is the southernmost street in Manhattan and 225th Street is the northernmost. Streets are typically 30 feet wide.

Broadway
