There are two power cars at each end of the train set. The power cars carry the most up-to-date traction technology with an ability to develop 4,600 kilowatts of tractive power. This adds up to a total of 9,200 kilowatts from the three-phase AC (Alternating Current) synchronous motors of every train. Up to 3,000 kilowatts of braking power is in use during its regenerative braking. A dedicated head end power inverter has enough capacity for a 1 plus 10 plus 1 train set configuration. The inverter operates off the DC (Direct Current) link and provides 480 volts. Should any part of the system fail, another inverter in the other power car will take over. Reduction of traction might occur if a second power failure takes place.
Passenger cars have an active tilt system to remove the feeling of force from passengers as the train reaches curves. This feature activates after the car reaches 60 miles per hour before hitting its top speed of 150 miles per hour. Independent tilt control gives a smoother experience by avoiding multiple car movements. First class cars accommodate approximately 44 passengers in one car. Amenities include audio and video entertainment plus 115-volt outlets at each seat. Business class cars seat around 71 passengers over four cars with only audio entertainment on offer. Travelers can choose seating groups that allow for onboard meetings and seat pitch is between six inches to 12 inches more than most airline seating. Wi-Fi is available in all passenger cars. A crew officer gives en-route ticketing schedules while spacious areas in each car let passengers walk from one car to the next through intercar passageways. These passageways are generally heated, quiet and have pneumatic sliding doors.
The café car, also known as the dining car, can accommodate around 34 passengers at a time. It is equipped with a lounge area that features stool seating, a dining area for full course meals and a business center. There is also video and audio entertainment available. Galleys throughout the train also provide quick service food options such as sandwiches and candy.
