Amtrak Train Routes From Atlanta

Amtrak operates America's intercity train service, running more than 300 trains each day to more than 500 destinations; Amtrak notes that its routes cover about 21,000 miles in 46 states, the District of Columbia and three Canadian provinces. Among the cities that Amtrak serves is Atlanta, where passengers have access to two major routes as well as options to connect to countless others through main city hubs.
  1. Crescent North

    • Amtrak's Crescent route to New York departs Atlanta's Peachtree Road station daily to service 27 cities on the way to its destination. The train offers reserved coach seating, or you may make reservations for sleeper car service in Amtrak's Viewliner train cars. Sleeper cars provide meals as part of the reservation, as well as private bathroom facilities, morning paper, nightly turndown service, a table and reclining seating that converts to sleeping beds at night. The Crescent to New York features a dining car, where you can enjoy a range of hot meals, sandwiches, snacks and beverages, as well as a lounge car, where you can relax with a beverage and perhaps enjoy a game of cards with a fellow traveler. The route from Atlanta to New York takes approximately 18 hours to complete.

    Crescent South

    • Amtrak operates the Crescent route south from Atlanta, traveling through eight cities, three states and one time zone change before reaching its final destination of New Orleans. Daily departures from Atlanta reach the Big Easy in approximately 12 hours. Passengers have the option of reserving standard coach seating, which reclines comfortably in coach, business-class or first-class cars, or making a reservation in a sleeper car. Sleeper cars offer passengers a private room, with seating that converts into comfortable beds. A private bathroom and meals are also part of the sleeper car service. The Crescent to New Orleans offers passengers a variety of dining options aboard the dining cars, as well as recreation and snack options in the lounge car.

    Alternatives

    • Although Amtrak operates only two routes out of Atlanta---Crescent North and Crescent South---it also offers alternative options. Because the Crescent North route stops in Washington, DC---an Amtrak hub---you can gain access to additional train routes from Atlanta by traveling from Atlanta to Washington, DC, and then switching to a train on another route. For example, you can take the daily Crescent North train from Atlanta to Washington and then switch to the Capitol Limited, which departs Washington, DC, and travels through Pittsburgh to its final destination of Chicago. Connecting to additional Amtrak routes by traveling from Atlanta to major hub cities such as Washington or New York allows you even more options.
