Driving 90 minutes north from Atlanta brings you to the city of Blue Ridge, Georgia. As its name suggests, this town is your entryway to the beautiful Blueridge Mountains. Board the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway from the historic train depot and ride alongside the Toccoa river from Blue Ridge to McCaysville, a border town between Georgia and Tennessee. The duration of this scenic train ride is 3.5 hours, including a 1.5 hour layover at McCaysville for dining, shopping and exploring. The train runs from March through December, on weekends until mid-June and daily during the months of July and October, giving travelers the opportunity to enjoy the season's best views.

A visit to Atlanta, especially with children, is not complete without a trip to Stone Mountain Park. The highlight, especially for young children, is likely to be a ride on the Stone Mountain Railroad.
