The airline took off on Sept. 24, 1947, with three Douglas Dakota aircraft operating from Nicosia. Initial flights went to Athens, Greece; London; Beirut, Lebanon; Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt; Istanbul, Turkey; and Rome. Within three years the company doubled its fleet.
In 2000, Cyprus Airways went through a uniform change, giving women flight attendants the option to wear pants. The uniforms are blue, gold and white, the company's official colors.
Cyprus Airways travels throughout Europe and the Middle East to 31 different destinations. It serves London; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Rome, Cairo, Egypt; Damascus, Syria; Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Bahrain, along with many other places.
The air fleet is all white with the company's name inscribed in blue over the front passenger windows. The blue tail has an emblem of a wild sheep, the mouflon.
