Book tickets online via Eurail's Web site, contact Eurail directly via email or call (866) 6-EURAIL to book your tickets and get more information (see Resources).
Email or call the Ljubljana train station to book your tickets if you already know your dates of departure (see Resources). Their local phone number is 01 29 13 332. (If calling from the United States or Canada, it is 011 (+386) 1 29 13 332. Otherwise, the international number is 00 (+386) 1 29 13 332.) When you confirm your reservations, don't forget to print out your intinerary and bring it to the train station.
Contact a travel agency to avoid the hassles of European train ticketing. They can arrange everything for you. Be aware that they will charge you a fee for their services.
Visit the Slovenske zeleznice Web site and go to where it says "International Transport." You can look up the various timetables, although there is no online booking.
Prepare yourself for a 6 and a half hour train trip. Grab snacks and goodies so as not to get stuck with food you don't like on the train.
Wake up early on the day of departure. The train leaves around 8:30 a.m., so leave plenty of time so you are not in a big rush.
Get on 1 of 2 trains. Either the ICS 14 or the EC 158. These are the ones going to Austria.
Know the language of your locations. Vienna is actually spelled Wien. If you see this in the train station, you know you are headed in the right direction. Follow those signs.
Save money on last minute plans. If you need to get back to Slovenia for some reason and you only bought a one-way ticket, you will not lose any money. A one-way ticket costs around 60 Euros and a return ticket costs around 120 Euros.
