Spain has a significant Romani population, estimated to be around 750,000 to 1,200,000 people. Romani people have been present in Spain since at least the 15th century, and have maintained a distinct cultural identity. The majority of Spanish Roma live in Andalusia, Catalonia, Madrid and Valencia, but there are also significant communities in the Canary Islands and other parts of Spain.
