Campgrounds in Frankfort, Michigan

Located on the east coast of Lake Michigan in the northwest of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Frankfort is adjacent to Crystal and Betsie Lakes, and not far from North Manitou Island, which comprises the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Campsites in the Frankfort area include such amenities as fishing piers, hot showers, nature trails and even wireless Internet.
  1. Betsie River Campsite

    • Open from May 1 to Oct. 1, Frankfort's Betsie River Campsite is owned by Wilbert and Barbara Lavely and offers 80 grassy sites in both shady and sunny locations. Only 2 miles from Lake Michigan's beaches, Bestie River Campsite provides great fishing piers and a fish-cleaning station on site. Salmon, trout and perch are plentiful for fishing, and a hiking and biking trail is nearby. Other nearby amenities include a camp store, a playground, hot showers, a dump station, RV hookups and six-person cabins that can be rented from the site.

    US Platte River Campground

    • Located 9 miles northeast of Frankfort in Empire, Michigan, the US Platte River Campground resides in the southern district of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore. Open year-round, group campsites are available from May to October by reservation, and two-thirds of the 122 campsites can be reserved from Memorial Weekend to Oct. 1t. Facilities at the US Platte River Campground include showers, a ranger station, an amphitheater, a dump station, telephones and a recycling station. Handicap access is available, and an entrance pass for Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is required.

    Turtle Lake Campground

    • Sixteen miles east of Frankfort in Beulah, Michigan, Turtle Lake Campground accepts reservations yea- round for its May through September season. The wooded location offers 59 campsites on 38 acres, all within 1/4 mile of the shore. Guests of the campsites can enjoy boating, fishing and swimming on Turtle Lake's sandy beach, and amenities include a bathhouse, a recreational building, a playground, sa anitary disposal station and wireless Internet. Cottages, RV hookups and a 32-foot Coachman are available for rent, and all sites can be rented by the day, week or month. Fishing boats, canoes, kayaks, pedal boats, tandem bikes and bicycles also are available for rent at the campground.
