Rifle River Campgrounds in Michigan

The Rifle River is located in northeastern Michigan and is approximately 60 miles long with an average depth of 24 inches. The river starts in Ogemaw County and flows to its final destination in Lake Huron. Winding through hardwood forests and rolling hills, the river provides many opportunities for outdoor recreation such as canoeing, fishing and inner-tubing. For travelers who want to stay where they play, there are several campgrounds located right on the riverside for overnight accommodations.
  1. Rifle River Recreation Area

    • The Rifle River Recreation Area is located at the origin of the Rifle River in Lupton. The park features four different areas for camping with a total of 174 campsites suitable for tents, trailers and RVs of all sizes. Three of the camping areas are rustic and feature a shaded grassy lawn, access to water, a picnic table, fire ring and vault toilets. The park has one modern camping area which features a shaded grassy lawn, electricity hookups, access to water, a picnic table, fire ring and bathhouse. The campground provides guests with many services and amenities which include a swimming beach, more than 14 miles of trails and paths, boat ramp, canoe launching sites, fishing area, small game hunting areas, snowmobile and cross-country skiing trails, metal detecting and several picnic areas with barbecue grills. The campgrounds are pet-friendly and are open year-round. The closest restaurants are located about 10 minutes west of the park in Rose City.

    Rifle River Campground

    • Rifle River Campground is situated just outside of the Gladwin State Forest Area in Sterling. The campground offers 82 campsites suitable for tents, trailers and RVs of all sizes. Campsites are wooded and feature a grassy lawn, access to water, electricity hookups, a picnic table and fire ring. More than 20 campsites are located directly on the riverside. The campground features a variety of services and amenities such as a bathroom and shower house, coin-operated laundry facility, sanitary dump station, a sandy swimming beach, children's playground, volleyball court, game room, convenience store and several picnic areas. Guests can also partake in daily tubing, kayak and canoe trips with free transportation provided. The campground is pet-friendly and is open from May through October. The closest restaurants are located about 20 minutes south of the campground in Standish.

    Big Bend Family Campground

    • Big Bend Family Campground is located nearly 10 minutes north of Lake Huron in Standish. The campground offers 178 campsites suitable for tents, trailers and RVs of all sizes. Campsites are over-sized and feature a grassy lawn, access to water, electricity hookups, a picnic table and fire pit. More than 40 campsites are located directly on the riverside. The campground offers numerous services and amenities including bathrooms and shower houses, a coin-operated laundry facility, sanitary dump station, propane gas services, a private lake with swimming beach, fishing pier, nature trails, children's playground, volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoe pits, game room, convenience store and several picnic areas. Guests can also rent inner-tubes, kayaks and canoes from the camp store. The campground is pet-friendly and is open from April through October. The closest restaurants are located less than 15 minutes east of the campground in Au Gres.
