Riverbend's 15 acres include walking trails along the south fork of the Solomon River. The three bedrooms have private baths, wireless Internet and TVs. Each room has sliding glass doors which access the Riverwalk. The library and great room are equipped with fireplaces, big screen TV, kitchenette and board games. The dining area's wall of windows offers a beautiful view of the Solomon River. Children enjoy cooking hot dogs and s'mores at the fire ring.
Downs, Kansas has been home to the Kansas Storytelling Festival since 1994. Just an 18-minute drive from Osborne, the Howell House Bed and Breakfast Inn has four rooms, each with a private bath. This historic house was built in 1883 by George Howell, who brought the first lumber business to Downs. Drive 24 minutes east from Osborne on U.S. 281 and you'll arrive in Cawker City, home of the world's largest ball of sisal twine. Linda Clover, caretaker of the Ball of Twine, owns the Ball of Twine Inn across the street from the ball. The cozy cottage can house up to five people, and has a full kitchen and patio. Just five miles from Glen Elder State Park, the inn is popular among fishermen and ice fishermen.
The Swinging G Lodge is on a working farm and cattle ranch outside of Alton, about 25 minutes west of Osborne. The lodge is ideal for small groups of up to 12 people. The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing meals inside or outside on the grill. Guests enjoy practicing at the shooting range, playing billiards, darts, watching satellite TV and gathering around the fire pit in the evenings. Private hunting trips are available for pheasant, deer and turkey.
