Built in 1830, and once the home of a U.S. senator, the Trebor Mansion Inn is a building shrouded in myth (it's rumoured to be haunted), mystery and history. Perched atop a hill in the Lakes Region of central Maine, many of its original architectural features, including the slate roof and stained glass windows, remain intact. It survived a fire in 2004 to continue its present incarnation as a hotel. With views the Piscataquis River and grounds with picnic areas, swings and benches, it is a peaceful getaway spot within walking distance of the village of Guilford. Wireless Internet is available and the owners offer special rates throughout the year. Check website for details.
