Vinalhaven is a small island off the coast of Rockland, Maine, with a year-round population of approximately 1,200. Situated inside a French Victorian house, the Payne Homestead is in a house built in 1873. The house has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1998, and has been in operation as a bed and breakfast since 1995. A minimum two-night stay is required for weekend reservations -- no minimum is required Sunday through Thursday. The Payne Homestead is 1/2 a mile from the ferry terminal and approximately one mile away from the Lane's Island Nature Conservancy, a park along the water. Family-style breakfast is served for all guests at 8 a.m.
The Old Granite Inn is in Rockland, Maine, approximately 1/2 mile from the ferry terminal for the ride to Vinalhaven. Overnight visitors to the island frequently spend an evening in Rockland before taking an early morning ferry over to the island, whether for a day trip or an overnight stay.
