Isle au Haut is a small town on an island of the same name in Knox County, Maine. The island, which is about 6 miles long and 2 miles wide, is located in Penobscot Bay. The population was 79 at the 2000 census, and about 60 percent of the island is part of Acadia National Park. Several hiking trails are available in the town, and the highest point is Mount Champlain at 540 feet. Daily ferry services run between Stonington, on Deer Island, and Isle au Hait.

    • The Inn at Isle au Haut has four guestrooms located in a house built in 1897 for a sea captain. Rooms are individually furnished with iron beds, antique oak and colorful quilts. One room has a private bathroom while the others have a shared bathroom. The cost of a night's stay includes all meals with a full sit-down breakfast, gourmet evening meal and a packed lunch. Bikes are available for riding to the National Park, and hiking from the Inn is also a popular activity. The inn is generally open from late spring to early fall and does not offer accommodations for anyone under the age of 16.

    Inn on the Harbor, Stonington

    • The Inn on the Harbor at Stonington is a 40-minute ferry ride from Isle au Hait. Open year-round, the Inn offers 13 individually decorated guestrooms that are named after the schooners that sail into the harbor. Each seaside room has binoculars for watching the fleet, as well as flat-screen LED TVs, DVD players and Wi-Fi service. Continental breakfast is included in the room rates, and several restaurants are in walking distance.

    Pilgrims Inn, Deer Isle

    • Pilgrim's Inn on Deer Isle overlooks Northwest Harbor a few miles from Stonington. Built in 1793 the Inn offers 12 rooms and three cottages. Each room is individually decorated with different colors, pumpkin pine floors, period pieces and private bathrooms. Rates include breakfast and early morning coffee; homemade cookies and beverages are available throughout the day. The Whaler's Rib Tavern, the in-house restaurant, has seasonal hours. Popular activities include kayaking and photography.

    The Inn at Ferry Landing

    • The Inn at Ferry Landing is located near the Eggemoggin Reach on Deer Isle. Situated by the waterfront, there are four guest rooms and a two-bedroom cottage with views of the suspension bridge. Room rates include homemade breakfasts made with local ingredients. Nearby activities include kayaking, hiking, antique hunting and visiting local artisans, and the ferry to Acadia National Park is just a short drive away.
