Eager, Arizona, bills itself as the spot where "the roads meet the trails." Located at the edge of the White Mountains, the town is a gateway to millions of acres of forests with spectacular peaks, canyons, lakes and rivers. Eager is one of the largest communities in Apache County, a 7,660-square-mile track of land made up of national parks and Native American tribal lands. Recreational and cultural attractions draw thousands of visitors each year, but Eager has a limited choice of overnight accommodations. Most hotels are located 1 mile north in Eager's sister town, Springerville.

    • Guests at the Best Western Sunrise Inn in Eager will find all the conveniences of the chain's big-city hotels as well as a few unexpected perks such as fresh-baked cookies every afternoon. Kid-friendly rooms with sofa beds are available, and pets are welcome. Physically challenged guests can book a wheelchair-accessible room equipped with bathtub seat, bathroom safety bars and an amplified television. The hotel serves a complimentary breakfast and other meals are available at nearby restaurants and fast food chains. Located within three miles of Casa Malpais, an major Native American archeological site, the hotel is also a short drive from Becker Lake and the Apache-Sitgraves National Forest.

    Americas Best Value Inn

    • Americas Best Value Inn in Springerville is part of a chain that offers clean and comfortable rooms at affordable rates. Guests will find all the basics such as cable television and Internet hookups at the inn, but rooms come with few frills. The one exception is a special suite equipped with a Jacuzzi and fireplace geared toward guests who visit the area to ski the slopes at Mt. Sunrise, 19 miles from the hotel. A complimentary breakfast comes with the room, and local restaurants serve German cuisine, steakhouse fare and fast food.

    Reed's Lodge

    • A local family of cattle ranchers owns and operates the Reed Lodge, a small-town hotel with local flavor. Actor John Wayne owned a neighboring ranch and occasionally visited the lodge for a friendly card game. The decor is Western and the furniture rustic. A large gift shop with hand-crafted Native American items and books on local history and culture occupies most of the lobby. The staff will arrange guided hunting trips and hikes, or load guests up with enough information to navigate the area on their own. Located on Main Street in Springerville, a mile from Eager, the lodge is close to local restaurants and fast-food chains.

    Rode Inns

    • The Rode Inns belong to chain of of four Arizona hotels. Two of them, the Rode Inn and the El Jo Motor Inn, are located on Main Street in Springerville, which is about a three-minute drive from Main Street in Eager. Both inns offer spacious rooms decorated with Western accent pieces. The hotel serves breakfast, and the menu includes waffles, burritos, oatmeal, fresh fruit and cereal. Guests can shop for camping equipment, hunting gear, clothes and sporting goods at the Western Drug and General Store, which is within walking distance of both inns. Rates are among the lowest in the area.
