The town of DeRuyter is located about 30 miles south of Syracuse in the heart of central New York state. The east branch of the Tioughnioga River flows through it, and the DeRuyter Lake lies three miles to the north. As of 2000, its population was about 1,500. The town was formed in 1798 and was named after Admiral Michiel DeRuyter. The nearest hotels to DeRuyter are in Tully, Cazenovia and Cortland.
