Those looking for an activity-filled experience might head for the white sands of Alona Beach. Bookended by rocky cliffs and studded with palms, Alona is home to several resorts, dive centers and plenty of tour operations to take you dolphin watching or island hopping. Shell collectors favor the 2-mile stretch of Doljo Beach, but there is little in the way of services. Bolod is the largest of Panglao beaches and is popular with families because of the shallow waters and the availability of rental huts, tents and tables.
If you're looking for a secluded, peaceful beach, head for those stretches of sand frequented by Panglao locals. Snorkelers and divers hang out at Bagobo because of the exceptionally clear waters, but if you want complete privacy, pack a lunch and go to deserted Momo Beach, which has no resorts. Finally, the fine white sands of Danao Beach have a few resorts, but you will find it is still quite private.
Beachfront resorts in Panglao come in all styles and at all prices. Travelers seeking luxury may consider the Amarela Resort on the sands of Bogobo Beach. Deluxe air-conditioned rooms and suites are tucked inside a lush garden with pathways leading to a private beach. Take advantage of the free snorkeling equipment to explore the crystalline waters, or try your hand at paddling an outrigger. Finish your day with a sunset dinner at the restaurant and a relaxing after-dinner drink in the library.
For the more budget conscious, the aptly named Alona Kew White Beach Resort offers free breakfast, restaurant, bar, pool, gym, on-site dive shop and massages on the beach. Equally thrifty is Linaw Beach Resort on a stretch of sand near Danao Beach, where all the rooms have air conditioning and the restaurant serves Italian, American and French specialties.
Head into the town of Panglao to find the unusual and lively ChARTs boutique hotel, which features thatched roofs, lots of local and avante-garde art, an odd-shaped pool, café, bar and full-service spa. If you are looking for group or family accommodations, the Scandinavian-style Harmony Hotel -- about 160 yards from Alona Beach -- offers a pool, kiddie pool, whirlpool, free Wi-Fi and family rooms with up to four beds.
