Elk Point, SD Area Motels

Elk Point is a Missouri River Valley town in the southeastern most point of South Dakota, right on the border of Iowa. The Lewis and Clark expedition set up camp in Elk Point and essentially founded the city in 1804 and Elk Point claims being the location of the first election west of the Mississippi when the expedition had to elect a new leader on Aug. 22, 1804. In honor of the town's history, Elk Point hosts the Lewis and Clark Heritage Days festival where the expedition is celebrated with reenactments of pioneer life.

    • The Hometowne Inn is the only tourist accommodation in Elk Point. The inn is along the town's main street, close to the shops and restaurants. The basic rooms have cable television and wireless Internet and guests can dine in the restaurant next door. Three blocks from the inn visitors can visit Edgar's Soda Old Fashioned Soda Fountain, a historic soda shop that serves old-fashioned drinks made with 1906 recipes from when the soda shop first opened.

    • Beresford, South Dakota, is 30 miles from Elk Point. The city has many recreational areas including the Bridges of Beresford Golf Course and Bulow Park which features tennis courts, horseshoe pits and picnic tables.     Vermillion, South Dakota

    • Vermillion, South Dakota, is 17 miles from Elk Point. Home to the University of South Dakota and the National Music Musuem, the area also produces wine and many local wineries organize tours and wine tastings.     North Sioux City, South Dakota

    • North Sioux City, Dakota is 15 miles from Elk Point. The city has many parks and nature reserves for visitors to enjoy including the Stone State Park, Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve and McCook Lake. The Country Inn and Suites Dakota Dunes offers visitors rooms with cable television, coffeemaker and wireless Internet. The inn has an indoor swimming pool, meeting room and restaurant. Less than a mile from both the Dakota Dunes Golf Course and the Two Rivers Golf Course, the hotel is ideal for visitors on a golfing vacation.
