Horton is a small community of approximately 2,000 persons in the mainly agricultural Brown county in Kansas. The town's residents pride themselves on being a progressive, quickly developing community with an efficient, forward-thinking government. Nicknamed the Electric City, it operates its own distributing company, water treatment plant and pollution center. Because of its size, Horton only has one hotel, but nearby towns offer additional accommodations.
The Horton Guest House is the only motel in the city of Horton. As is the custom in this community, the motel is locally owned and operated. The quaint exterior of the building and comfortable, cozy rooms will remind guests of home. The motel has six large, clean, non-smoking rooms, decorated with Native American, Rock Island Railroad, Irish, or Cowboy themes, and include a refrigerator, microwave and coffeemaker.
Hiawatha is a convenient 12-mile drive straight north of Horton. The Hiawatha Lodge has 65 newly remodeled, clean and comfortable rooms, is independently owned and operated, and offers rooms at a very reasonable rate. The friendly staff has made it their goal to be a traveler's home away from home. Amenities in standard rooms include cable TV and an in-room coffeemaker. Suites are available with refrigerators and microwaves. The business center offers Internet access.
