Baxter Springs, Kansas Motels

Baxter Springs, Kansas is a small town in the far southeast corner of the state. It is five miles from Missouri and less than one mile from Oklahoma. Route 66 passes through town and is only in a few small part of Kansas. There are some privately owned hotels in the immediate area, but most accommodations are in Joplin, Missouri or Miami, Oklahoma.

  1. The Little Brick Inn

    • The Little Brick Inn in downtown Baxter Springs is a place to go back in time and become nostalgic about the Mother Road, also known as Route 66. The route goes right by the inn, and thousands have visited here since the late 1800s.
      The Inn is upstairs with seven rooms, four of which are suites. The other three are parlor rooms. All of the rooms are outfitted in antique furniture, but there are also modern conveniences such as a TV and telephones. The room comes with a full breakfast made by the hotel chef.

    Hampton Inn

    • About 10 miles south of Baxter Springs is the Hampton Inn at Miami, Oklahoma. This hotel has 72 rooms, all with indoor entrances. You may choose between rooms with king-size beds, with or without refrigerator and microwave. Two queen-size bed rooms are also available. Suites have a king-size bed, a separate bedroom and a sofabed.

      A free hot breakfast is served in the morning, and free beverages are available at all times. There is an on-site convenience store and a coin laundry. The hotel also offers free Wi-Fi.
      The Hampton Inn has a swimmning pool, fitness center, business center and meeting rooms.

    Sleep Inn

    • The Sleep Inn is just off Interstate 44, and 10 miles from Baxter Springs, near Joplin Missouri. Receive fresh coffee and a freshly baked cookie upon signing in compliments of the hotel. There is a free breakfast served as well.
      This hotel has 61 rooms on two floors. There is free Wi-Fi, a business center, meeting rooms and a swimming pool. Rooms come with either a king-size bed or two queen-size beds, along with cable-TV and a coffee maker.
      Pets are allowed but there is a $15 fee that is not refundable.

    The Area

    • Baxter Springs was the first cowtown in Kansas, where herds of cattle were driven north from Texas. In its early history it is said the bank was robbed by Jesse James.
      The town later it became part of Route 66 history. Another major attraction is casinos in nearby Oklahoma, and Joplin, Mo. is not far away.
