Spokane's Amtrak station is in downtown, within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. Amtrak's "Empire Builder" train makes one stop a day at this station on its way to and from Seattle and Portland before heading out for the long journey to Chicago. Visitors stopping over in Spokane will have no problem finding a hotel near the train station.
When The Davenport Hotel opened back in 1914, it was the first hotel in the area to have air-conditioning. Since then, it has become landmark in Spokane, hosting famous guests like Charles Lindbergh and Lawrence Welk. The hotel underwent a complete renovation in 2002, giving it an up-to-date, modern appeal. All guest rooms have a current, contemporary design with marble bathrooms and hand-carved furniture as well as modern amenities like flat-screen televisions and free Internet access. Guests can use the hotel's indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and 24-hour fitness center. For those with pets, the hotel offers a complimentary pet walking service. The on-site restaurant serves prime rib and King Crab.
