The unincorporated community of Curlew, located in Republic, Washington near the Kettle River, is a quaint area with few big town amenities and mainstays. However, its location in the rural northeast of Washington makes it an ideal stop for camping, fishing and hunting trips. Options for lodging include both hotels and campgrounds.
Located on Highway 21, two miles north of Curlew, is Wolfgang's Riverview Inn. Boasting Bavarian architecture and centrally located in the rustic countryside, Wolfgang's Riverview Inn allows views from each room's private sundeck of bald eagles and ospreys in the trees and fish in the river below. The rooms are all suites, with kitchens featuring microwaves, sinks and refrigerators, and a living and sleeping area with color TVs, VCRs and queen sized beds. The adjacent Wolfgang's Groceries, Beer and Wine contains provisions to stock the inn's kitchens. The proximity of the river to the inn makes bringing your fishing pole along a must.
The Curlew Motel is located above the Kettle River, with decks overlooking the swimming trout below. Each room in the Curlew features wireless Internet and HBO and a full kitchen with cooking and eating utensils and condiments. The motel also offers kayak, canoe and fishing pole rentals, as well as guided fishing, mountain and hunting tours.
There are several campgrounds and RV parks situated around Lake Curlew and the Kettle River in Republic, Washington. These include the Black Beach Resort, located on Curlew Lake, which includes an RV Park and cabin rentals; the Curlew RV Park and Mini Storage, offering RV parking and campgrounds near the Kettle River; and Tiffany's Resort, which offers rental cabins with full kitchens and bathrooms, and RV parking and camping on the Lake Curlew. Tiffany's also rents boats and kayaks.
Located in the old ghost town section of Curlew, the Ansorge Hotel Museum, built in 1903, allows visitors to stroll through the original rooms of the historic museum and transport themselves back to the turn of the last century. Curlew also features an Antique Car and Truck Museum, with old cars and farm equipment. Admission is free. Finally, travelers to Curlew in early June can participate in the annual Barrel Derby Days festival, where several barrels are floated down the Kettle River to see which one travels from the Midway Bridge in Ferry to the Town Bridge in Curlew first. The festival also features parades, a pancake breakfast and fun runs.
