Coker Creek is a small town in the Cherokee National Forest near Tellico Plains in Monroe County, Tennessee. It meanders through a gorgeous landscape and terminates at Coker Creek Falls. Several local legends try to explain the name of the creek, one claiming that it was named after a Cherokee chief named Coqua and another arguing the creek was named for a Cherokee princess named Coqua Bell whose gold nugget necklace caused the 19th century gold rush that took place there. For a price, tourists can learn to pan for gold at Coker Creek by visiting Bill's Pit Stop.
The Sunflower Inn is a two-story, seven-room house built in 1902 that offers accommodations in Tellico Plains, 9 miles south of Coker Creek. According to the inn's website, the house "has been totally refurbished with modern conveniences while retaining its original charm." The inn is fully furnished and provides linens, washer and dryer, cable television, VCR and dishes. The Sunflower Inn is downtown next to the Tellico Plains Bakery.
T-Lea Farm is a 73-acre property 16 miles south of Coker Creek in Tellico Plains that rents cabins. The grounds feature a five-stall horse barn with two horses, Jezebel and Goldie. Visitors are allowed to visit the horses at any time, and other horses can be delivered to the farm for horseback riding rentals. The accommodations feature a full kitchen, a full bath, a mini-bar and a mini-fridge stocked with snacks, soda and water.
The Red Roof Inn is 24 miles northeast of Coker Creek in Etowah. It features a fitness facility, free continental breakfast, wireless Internet and complimentary coffeehouse-style coffee and tea. Hunt's Lodge Motorcycle Campground and Cabins caters to the motorcycle traveler. It's about 3 miles southeast of Coker Creek, outside the Cherokee National Forest, and features two acres of camping grounds and five cottages. Cabins are heated and air-conditioned, and each comes equipped with a private safe, covered parking, linens, pillows and towels.
