Affectionately known as Trout Town USA, Roscoe, New York is home to five well-stocked trout streams. Based at the foot of the expansive Catskill Mountains, the town is well-positioned for summer and winter activities. An inn, restaurant and pub, Lanza Country Inn is situated on a mountaintop and boasts nine rooms, each with private baths and antique furnishings. The lobby and greenhouse are quiet retreats. Antiquing is a popular pastime of Lanza's guests, along with the spectacular fly fishing that's available throughout the area. Winter room rates, as of January 2011, range from $85-$125.
Built in 1907, Reynolds House Inn and Motel's Edwardian structure is distinctive with its blue paint and yellow trim. Offering seven rooms, all with en-suite baths, the inn has hosted numerous dignitaries during its past 100 years. It houses an extensive library for quiet enjoyment. The adjacent motel has eight rooms, all with two double beds. There are efficiency rooms available for those who wish to prepare meals on premises. There is no onsite restaurant. Rates range from $70 - $240 as of January 2011.
The 23 rooms at Rockland House all have en-suite baths and air conditioning. A lounge and restaurant featuring American cuisine is on premises. Its pedigree dates back to 1865 and it has been entertaining guests ever since. Activities are available year-round from springtime and summer trout fishing to the spectacular colors that fall brings, and snowmobiling and hunting in the winter. There's a nine-hole golf course within walking distance of Rockland House. Room rates range from $50 to $60 per night as of January 2011.
If golf, tennis or swimming is your summer preference, the Tennanah Lake Golf and Tennis Club offers 24 rooms and a Sam Snead-designed golf course, the oldest in Sullivan County. The lodge, adjacent to the eighth hole, affords visitors a 30-mile view into the Delaware River Valley. Wireless Internet, satellite television and a swimming pool are other features. The Grille restaurant is on the premises and a pro shop accommodates both tennis and golf fans. Room rates range from $85 to $115, as of January 2011, with golf packages available. Breakfast and lunch are served daily, and The Grille serves dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.
