Hotels near Cragford, Alabama

Cragford, Alabama, is an unincorporated area at the southern end of Lake Wedowee. It is near the Talledega National Forest, and 25 miles from the Georgia state line. Fishing and hunting are the major activities here, and there are hotels in nearby towns to accommodate people who want to enjoy the great outdoors. There are no hotels in Cragford, but there are other businesses to serve your outdoor needs.

  1. The Traveler's Inn

    • The Traveler's Inn, in Roanoke, is a two-floor small motel that offers basic accommodations at a low price. The rooms were $50 and under as of early 2011, and the suites were around $50. The suites have a kitchen attached, with a stove, refrigerator, recliner and couch. Roanoke is 20 miles southeast of Cragford, and offers local southern cooking, and barbecue, at various local restaurants. Gedneys is a steakhouse and southern cooking establishment, a few miles south of town.

    Key West

    • The Key West Hotel is a little different, and is also in Roanoke. This is part of a chain of southeastern hotels and the outside is patterned after tropical, Key West, type architecture. There are touches of this inside as well with bright colors and large windows. A free continental breakfast is served, and several local establishments, as well as national chains, offer food in the area. Not to be missed is Jon Boy's Smoke House in downtown Roanoke, where barbecue and steaks are served.

    Cheaha State Park Resort

    • The Cheaha State Park, 20 miles northwest of Cragford, is inside the Talledega National Forest, set amid the trees and a small lake. Breakfast is served in the restaurant except during winter, when a continental breakfast is served in the lobby. The park's restaurant is open year-round for other meals. Rooms come in various sizes, they are pet friendly and Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. Cabins, chalets, camping and a group lodge is available in addition to the hotel in the state park.

    The Area

    • Cragford is centered around hunting and fishing, and it caters to tourists. Hunting and fishing guides are in the area to take you on an expedition. Though it is a small community, it offers two local flavor restaurants: the country Farm Restaurant, and Red's Catfish Cabin. The Mellow valley Lunchroom is also available for a quick lunch -- for there or to go -- during the day.
