  1. Comfort Inn Fairfield

    • Fairfield's Comfort Inn offers everything you'd expect from any of the chain's hotels: its clean, pet-friendly and well-equipped with services including a fitness center and laundry service. The Comfort Inn Fairfield is just off of the interstate. It has 80 guest rooms, and all room rates include complimentary breakfast. The pool is outdoor, so open subject to weather. Some of the rooms have refrigerators and microwaves, allowing guests to do some rudimentary cooking over longer stays. Business travelers will appreciate the copy and fax center.

    Sheraton Birmingham

    • The Sheraton in downtown Birmingham -- just a few miles from Fairfield -- is the recent recipient of a $21 million face lift. Its fitness center was part of the upgrade, in addition to indoor and outdoor heated pools, a whirlpool and a business center. The hotel is close to Riverchase Gallery -- a 200-store shopping mall. Parking is free, but no valet service is offered. The hotel has limited airport pick-up and drop-off service at an additional cost. High-speed Internet is available in the rooms at a surcharge.

    The Redmont Hotel

    • The Redmont Hotel claims to be the only boutique hotel in downtown Birmingham. Included in the National Register of Historical Places, the Redmont features five deluxe suites in addition to its standard rooms; the king suite features a garden tub and stand-alone shower and a wet bar and separate living room. All deluxe rooms have large-screen LCD TVs and iPod docking setups. Standard rooms all feature double beds and a separate living room with a pull-out couch. All rooms in the hotel have wired and wireless Internet connections and coffeemakers. The Redmont's crown jewel is Above, the only rooftop bar in the city.

Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf and Country Club

    • This huge, 248-room hotel is located south of Fairfield, 20 miles from the Birmingham Airport. Its distance from the city is offset by its settings: the hotel is surrounded by forest and lakes and the Robert Trent Jones at Ross Bridge golf course, an 18-hole, 181-yard course. Non-golfers needn't feel put out, as the hotel has a specially appointed navigator to offer "In-the-Know" recommendations of local events and activities. The Renaissance also offers 21,000 square feet of meeting space for corporate events and has free parking for all hotel and business guests.
