  1. Sightseeing in Southwest Colorado

    • No matter where you stay in this part of Colorado you'll need a car to get from point A to point B. If Slick Rock is your main destination you'll find there's more to do and see within 50 miles and as travel goes in this part of the country, 50 miles is common. Just across the border in Moab, Utah are the Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park. Both have picnic areas and offer guided hikes and both are all-day visits.

      For more hiking, archaeological vistas and views of the natural wonders of the Southwest visit Mesa Verde National Park, Ute Mountain Tribal Park, Hovenweep National Monument, and the Anasazi Heritage Center but remember they are all full-day excursions.

      If you're staying in Rico you might take in the Upper Dolores Valley but this full-day outing is best taken with a high clearance car or four-wheel drive vehicle. There's hiking and fishing to go with the spectacular views. And if you just have a half day, a drive up to visit Telluride, where Butch Cassidy robbed his first bank, for bike riding, summer weekend festivals and great skiing if you're visiting during the ski season.
