Empire, Colorado, about 45 minutes due west of Denver, is a former mining town with a population of just under 350, as of 2008. With hiking, mountain biking, skiing and hunting possibilities within close proximity, Empire offers something for most outdoor enthusiasts. There are no motels in Empire proper, but several in surrounding small communities.

The America's Best Sundowner Motel in Winter Park is located 30 minutes northwest of Empire. In the middle of downtown, the Sundowner is a quick walk to shops and fine dining. All rooms come with queen or king beds, cable TV and a full sized bathtub. Some rooms are handicap accessible, some have air conditioning and all have access to the indoor pool and hot tub.
