Although Indiana is better known for its rolling corn fields and pastures, every state has a highest point; the Hoosier State's is appropriately named "Hoosier Hill." It falls in a rural area about 80 miles east of Indianapolis, with no hotels or motels in the immediate area. If you're thinking about visiting Hoosier Hill, the nearest lodging options fall in the Winchester and Richmond metropolitan areas, each about 15 miles away.
Richmond is a metropolitan area in east central Indiana with two interchanges on Interstate 70. With the highway access, there's a high demand for chain motels, and there's plenty to book. Richmond is home to a Best Western, Comfort Inn, Days Inn, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Knights Inn, Lees Inn and Suites, Marriott, Motel 6 and a Super 8.
The Westside Gust House is a small bed and breakfast run by university professors who live across the street. The proprietors, Mickey White and Cheryl Gibbs, advertise themselves as seasoned travelers and have styled the Guest house's amenities and hospitality after a model they'd like to see in their own adventures.
The proprietors call it: "A cross between a hotel and a timeshare or vacation rental, but with salt and pepper in the shakers, enough toilet paper to last for the entire stay, a full bottle of dish soap and enough food in the kitchen that you don't have to haul in a cooler or rush right out to the store when you arrive."
Randolph Inn and Suites is a newer hotel located in the Winchester, Indiana metropolitan area. It features 47 new rooms and 12 guest suites at the intersection of highways 27 and 32. While further away than Richmond, the Randolph Inn remains an easy 20-mile drive from Hoosier Hill.
The Winchester Guest House is a bed and breakfast situated on six rolling acres in Randolph County. It features an indoor pool, a spa, movie theater and billiard room, as well as a small movie theater and plasma televisions.
