Since Jakarta is Indonesia's capital and biggest city, demand for hotels there is high. Start looking for your hotel well in advance of your trip to make sure you get a room. Booking your hotel room early will also leave you plenty of time to organize other aspects of your trip, such as your Visitation Visa and itinerary. Find your hotel through trusted sources such as embassies, reputable travel websites, credible guidebooks and established international hotel brands. Hotels that are part of a well known global franchise are likely to be of a standardized quality and you'll therefore know what to expect from them.
Go to the Visit Indonesia website to research different parts of Jakarta. Decide which area to stay in according to your interests and requirements. The Jakarta History Museum is in Jakarta Kota, near Sunda Kelapa. Pulau Seribu is good for snorkeling and swimming, while Bogor, Puncak, Sukabumi and Bandung are mountain resorts.
Click on the 'Find a Hotel' link from the Jakarta page of the Visit Indonesia website. From the list, pick out hotels in your chosen area.
Go the TripAdvisor website and type Jakarta into the Find Hotels search field. On the search results page, narrow down the results by entering in your chosen location or selecting a neighborhood from the list. The neighborhoods with the most hotels listed by TripAdvisor are Setiabudi, home of modern entertainment center Setiabudi One, and Grogol Petamburan, where there are two shopping malls and several landmarks.
Click on the names of the hotels in the new search results and read the user reviews. These can sometimes be more illuminating than all the clever marketing copy, since you'll be learning about other travelers' experiences rather than what the hotel wants you to know.
Look at the websites of the hotels you are interested in so far, paying particular attention to prices, facilities and any other criteria important to you. If you're still interested in the hotel after learning more about it, make a note of its telephone number and/or email address.
Look in Indonesia guidebooks for listings of Jakarta hotels. Read the descriptions and underline the names and contact details of the ones that interest you.
Conduct an online search of each hotel you are interested in. Research each hotel by exploring the websites and articles listed in the search results.
Email or telephone all the hotels you're still interested in following your research. Ask questions about each hotel to determine if it meets all your requirements, preferences and constraints.
