Many hotels, especially all-inclusive ones, provide an entertainment program for their guests. For those places that are secluded, having entertainment is a must. There are several different types of entertainment out there, and creating a program that is both successful and doable is the challenge that every hotel entertainment specialist must make.
While planning your hotel entertainment program, keep in mind the needs of your guests, the constraints and special features and theme of your hotel, and the type of hotel you have. A little planning and hard work can make all the difference for your guests' vacation.
Know your audience. If you run a quiet bed and breakfast, don't put on an over-the-top rodeo-themed party to entertain your guests. Something more low-key like outdoor theater or a live string player during dinner might be more their taste. Hotels in the mountains should steer clear of beach-themed entertainment.
Plan how your program will work. If you know that guests tend to stay for a week on average, it might be okay to cycle the entertainment. For example, you could have the same thing performed each Tuesday. Not only will this make your entertainment program more predictable for scheduling, but the performers will be more practiced, leading to a better show.
Find your venue. If your hotel has only one space that will work for entertainment, make sure that everything you have planned will work in that space. If there are several locations, your options may be able to vary a bit more.
Know your budget. Nothing looks worse than an over-the-top spectacular that falls short. Only plan for what you can manage and your guests will be impressed.
Choose your performers. Some hotels have regular staff whose sole job is to entertain. They might be multi-talented actors, singers and improvisation specialists. This route often leads to a special bond between your entertainers and the guests, which makes their vacation more memorable. Alternately, you may be able to contract outside performers to entertain at your hotel from time to time. A combination of both could also work.
Make sure your program is well practiced. A good show equals a good vacation. The importance of being good at what you're putting on cannot be stressed enough.
Schedule your entertainment program. Some hotels make up a schedule that is posted around the hotel, so guests know exactly what is going on all the time. Other hotels just have a set time and place set up, and the specific entertainment is a surprise. Go with the general feel of your hotel to know what's right for your property.
