Hyatt is a worldwide hotel chain, with a 55-year history, and as of March 2010, it had 434 properties around the world. The chain has a history of rewarding loyal customers with its Gold Passport program. Hyatt CEO Mark Hoplamazian describes the company mission as "providing authentic hospitality." One of the ways Hyatt does this is offering you many different ways to get free food during your stay.
Ask for the "Awaken" package when booking a stay. This package includes a complimentary breakfast and a late checkout. While you don't need to be a Gold Passport member to take advantage of this offer, you do need to ask for it in advance, when making reservations. Rates and participation in the program vary from resort to resort. Make sure to ask ahead of time.
Join Hyatt's Gold Passport membership program. Membership in the program is free. As you earn points, you achieve different membership levels, starting with gold. At the gold level, you earn points for many different kinds of rewards, however none of them are food related. Hyatt started a new incentive program in May 2009 called "Random Acts of Generosity," which affects even Gold Level Passport members. According to Rob Walker of the New York Times, Passport program members will receive spontaneous, random perks. Many of these perks are food and drink related, like getting your bar tab paid for, or free room service.
The vice president who runs the program, Jeff Zidell, stresses that these random acts are not the earned rewards typical to the rest of the Passport program, but are spontaneous, random, generous acts to reward loyalty.
Accumulate points to progress to Platinum and then Diamond level membership. As a Platinum member, you earn award certificates every third stay at a Hyatt property. Many of the rewards are food items or food related, and the more stays you have, the more generous these Platinum rewards become. They include a welcoming fruit basket, a wine-and-cheese plate snack, a $10 gift card to Starbuck's Coffee, and a complimentary continental breakfast. At Diamond level, you can access Hyatt's exclusive Regency and Grand Club lounges. These lounges offer complimentary continental breakfasts as well as evening hors d'oeuvres daily. As a Diamond level member, if your hotel doesn't have one of these lounges, you will be given a complimentary full breakfast each day.
