Instructions

    • 1

Decide the length of walk you wish to take. While the actual length of the Boston Freedom Trail can be done in a single day, that doesn't allow for stopping to go through any of the sites along the way.

    • 2

Start at the Boston Common. This is the oldest public park in the United States and a popular gathering place today as much as it was during colonial times.

    • 3

Choose four or five sites you wish to visit from the 16 along the Boston Freedom Trail. This number takes up a solid day of sight-seeing and history lessons.

    • 4

Look at favorite stops such as Paul Revere's house from which he began his famous ride to warn against the British invasion, the old North Church where the lanterns warned "one if by land and two if by sea," and the Bunker Hill Monument that provides a great view of Boston and commemorates a major battle of the Revolutionary War.

    • 5

Book a guided tour through the Freedom Trail Foundation, the Boston by Foot organization and others. These are usually 90 minutes long.

    • 6

Plan a self-guided tour of Boston's Freedom Trail. There are downloadable MP3 audio guides to listen to along the way.
