Ottawa is the capital of Canada and a large city in the province of Ontario. In addition to governments offices, the downtown part of the city is known for its restaurants, shops and museums. This area also features the Rideau Canal, which has miles of biking and hiking paths. Downtown Ottawa features large and luxurious hotels that often have their own fine-dining restaurants.

The National Arts Centre and the Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club are within walking distance of the hotel. For guests looking for fresh air, Minto and Confederation parks are also within walking distance. Barrymore's Music Hall is approximately four blocks away. The Embassy Hotel and Suites have small suites starting as low as approximately $70 a night, as of winter 2010. It also has long-term stay rates with suites that have full kitchens. Suites can be reserved for as little as $2,160 per month in 2010.

    • The Fairmont Chateau Laurier is in a building that resembles a French chateau. It is a large luxury hotel with a full business center, a health club with a swimming pool and three places to eat, including a restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offers fine dining with an extensive wine list. The hotel also has a cocktail lounge. There are 429 rooms that include 33 luxury suites. Guests can also take advantage of specials such as family, holiday, bed-and-breakfast and spa packages. The Fairmont Chateau Laurier is situated next to the Parliament buildings. Shopping opportunities are available within a short distance of the hotel at the ByWard Market. The Canada Science & Technology Museum is 10 minutes from the hotel, while the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Canadian Children's Museum, and the Canadian Postal Museum can be reached by foot. A large skating rink is situated just outside the hotel. Rooms started under $160 a night in the winter holiday season of 2010.
