If you are looking for something different for your next getaway and have an adventurous nature, theme hotel rooms might be for you. Texas offers many hotels that offer a new twist to traditional accommodations. Theme rooms reflect on the colorful history of the Lone Star State and can be found in many different motifs and in several locations.
The Old Texas Square Hotel in Bandera, less than an hour northwest of San Antonio, was originally built in the 1940s, and has had its share of famous guests over the years, including John Wayne and Willie Nelson. It was named "The Frontier" when it was first opened, and the name was changed after a 2005 renovation. The cowboy-themed rooms were updated but still retain the old rustic atmosphere that made it famous. Modern conveniences were added such as air-conditioning, color TV's, phones and coffeemakers. These cozy rooms reflect the era of the cowboy, with western style bedspreads, linens, barn-wood furniture, old lamps and rugs. You won't find an elevator in the entire hotel, but there is an old ornate staircase. Some of the names of the themed rooms are Pancho Villa, Grandma's Room, Wild Boots, and Wild Bill Hickok. Rates vary with time of year and choice of rooms.

A major attraction for tourists in the small town of Wharton, an hour from downtown Houston, is the Teepee Motel. It was built in the 1940s and fell into disrepair with the advent of the interstate highway system. It was closed for many years, but was bought and reopened in 2006 by a Texas couple who had won the lottery. This motel is a part of American history with its quirky concept and offers visitors a unique lodging experience. The motel consists of 10 full-sized teepees that feature double beds and modern amenities such as TVs and microwaves. All teepees are decorated with American Indian artifacts, and each bed is covered with a handmade quilt. Rates vary with the seasons..
