The southeast region of Alaska in which Juneau is located has some of the highest annual rainfall totals in the state of Alaska. Despite abundant precipitation, tourism is still a major contributor to the local economy.

There are on average 225.9 days of rain annually, with spring months being the driest and fall months the wettest. April is the driest month, with 2.96 inches of precipitation, and October is the wettest month, with 8.30.
The Alaska Climate Research Center notes that the climate around Juneau is fairly mild compared to other regions of Alaska: winters are warm and summers are cool due in large part to the influence of the Pacific Ocean. The Köppen-Geiger climate classification system characterizes Juneau as a humid continental climate.
The other significant form of precipitation in Juneau is snowfall. According to the National Climatic Data Center, the average monthly snowfall in Juneau is 84.1 inches, the equivalent of 8.4 inches of rain. Snowfall occurs primarily in November to March. January has the highest average snowfall: 25.4 inches, or 2.5 inches of rain.
