The hotel has been in operation since 1905 and its walls are covered in art, giving it a gallery feel. Guests primarily stay at Hotel Chelsea want to walk the halls that Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and others once did. The GEM Hotel is a boutique hotel in the heart of Chelsea. Opened in 2007, its 81 rooms are divided into standard, business, queen rooms and penthouse suites. All rooms are fitted with a wide-screen LCD television, offer free wireless Internet and are smoke-free. The hotel has no restaurant and or room service, but many world class restaurants are just steps away. Concierge service, a business center and fitness room is available to guests. As of September 2010, the hotel has a 15 percent discount for all guests who make their reservation at least 15 days early.
