Thirty-five miles of Atlantic Ocean beaches and a three-mile boardwalk with its own bike path welcome visitors to Virginia Beach. Before Memorial Day weekend and after Labor Day, the beaches are open to leashed dogs. During the summer, dogs enjoy morning and evening outings on beaches north and south of the Boardwalk. A stay at one of the city's several dog-friendly hotels and off-leash romping in two dog parks complete a happy, shared Virginia Beach holiday.
Located next to the Virginia Beach Convention Center, the Doubletree Hotel Virginia Beach permits dogs up to 75 lbs. for a daily fee. Eight blocks from the Boardwalk, the Doubletree is a 10 minute drive from the city's Red Wing Park, where licensed, vaccinated dogs can run free in a 1-acre dog park for an annual registration fee. The hotel also offers an outdoor area for dog walking. Woodstock Community Park, with another dog park, is 20 minutes away.
An AAA three-diamond establishment, the Doubletree has 292 guest accommodations with cable television, high-speed Internet access and summer shuttle service to the beach. Other amenities include an indoor pool, outdoor tennis courts and fitness center. Max & Erma's, the on-site restaurant, features salads, sandwiches and steaks.
