Keweenaw, Michigan, is a county in the state's Upper Peninsula on the end of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The area is on Lake Superior and is known as Copper Country because of its history of copper mining in the 1800s. Copper is no longer mined there but abandoned mines and ghost towns still draw visitors to the area. Keweenaw includes more than two dozen towns and communities including Calumet, Copper Harbor, Hancock and Houghton. Visitors will find a variety of places to stay, including budget-friendly motels.
