Hallstadtt is an Austrian town surrounded by mountains and a large lake which is known to locals as the Hallstättersee. In 1997, it earned the distinction of becoming a "World Cultural and Natural Heritage" site. The town was included on the UNESCO list of special sites because it has one of the oldest salt mines in the entire world. It is a mecca for tourists seeking a relaxing cultural holiday that is set in a beautiful environment and there is a range of accommodations for every kind of visitor.

    • Pension Hallberg is a non smoking hotel and offers views of the surrounding mountains, the Hallstatt lake as well as the town. Owned by Gerda Winkelmann, the hotel includes an antique shop which sells Art Nouveau and Art Deco period pieces. For a double-bed room, rates cost between €25 (USD $32) and €60 (USD $76). There is a single room surcharge fee that ranges from €5 (USD $6) to €35 (USD $44). Children aged three or younger can stay for free while children between 4 and 12 can stay for an additional rate that ranges from €15 (USD $19) to €25 (USD $32). All guests with a reservation of seven nights will receive one night for free.

    Seehotel Grüner Baum

    • Grüner Baum sits on the Hallstatt lake and is located within the town’s historic marketplace. The hotel’s two restaurants offer fresh fish such as trout and white fish which are caught daily in the nearby lake. Chefs cook with primarily organic ingredients and the extensive wine collection features the best wine labels from Austria and around the world. Most of the hotel’s rooms have either a balcony or a large terrace and all contain vintage or antique pieces. As of August 2010, prices range from €80 (USD $106) a night for a single room for one person to €210 (USD $278) per night for a junior suite that can sleep two to four people.

    Grüner Anger

    • Located in the southern part of Hallstatt, the Grüner Anger is a family-owned inn belonging to the Sulzbachers. It is walking distance from the town center, the lake and the railway tracks that lead to the town’s historic salt mines. Every room comes with a bathroom, satellite television, telephone, and some of the rooms have balconies. For 2010, room rates range from €39 (USD $50) to €45 (USD $57) per person per night and includes a breakfast buffet and taxes. All children under the age of six can stay for free and children between 6 and 14 can stay for an additional 20 percent.
